glamour girls of Yerevan

They are everywhere, cool and sexy, speaking little Armenian, less Russian and no English. Using smartphones chiefly for phone calls or as an accessory for shining Swarovski cases. They inhabit bars and cafes with “Fuck me” look, but “I am a virgin” behavior.

There is something controversial in Yerevan’s glamourous girls. They really believe they are the coolest so they can charm any guy. This is not even funny, they do believe that. As maybe Paris Hilton thinks she is the most attractive and she really believes she can have any guy.

Another funny observation is actual guys around those girls. Normally those guys are wealthy, confident-looking, short and fat. Fat men in black. The picture from aside makes the couple even funnier. Partly because those guys are super proud to have younger, trendy chick around and they show this proudness by spreading invisible messages with their look, talk and behavior and partly because you can guess main reasons and motives behind that relationship.

Yerevan glamour girls will amaze you with their taste. They wear the best and latest clothes, drive fastest and most reliable cars, sometimes heavy SUVs, drink mojito and eat organic. But they can hardly make coffee or omelette for themselves.

I know it’s not an Armenian phenomenon only.

The question is “To pity or not to pity”, as this question may literally transfer into “To be or not to be” in the future, when they grow up in some 10-15 years. Because someone should pay taxes so these people can receive allowances when they are old. They are part of our society. They need to learn to do something, apart from “ahhhhh”, “hoootttt”, “I love Fashion TV” and “oh my God”.

Should we invest time to explain that they are laughable or should we let them stay in their dreams? Should we educate them or should we shut up and let them live their life? Probably we should really shut up, but the problem is society is going to feed these people by paying allowance once they are jobless and old. I mean being a fun for society now they may transform into burden very soon.

Tamushka, Gay & Saq and others

The names of Yerevan’s taxi services best reflect the level of human development. Talking about monopolies here, it needs to be mentioned that taxi business in Armenia is not monopolized. And maybe this is one of the reasons it is such a mess.

Taxis are many, they are various, but there are few things in common in almost every car. Bad music, strange taxi name and Nobel prize winner driver.

Music:

You will listen the types of music you never heard of. To classify with well-known terminology it may be described as deep down-tempo Armenian. But it will make you forget where you were going. Looking at the driver that enjoys the music you may wonder if the CD comes along with a pot. Thankfully Yerevan is a relatively small city so you won’t be zombified by the music before you arrive.

Strange taxi names:

If I start recalling all those names, Tamushka, Gay & Saq, Ну Погоди, Ganybablo, Super Extreme, etc. you may think I’m still under the mentioned music. One may wonder if this is the result of not monopolized business. I would pay to witness the process of creating these names. It may be a subject of a separate, big research. You can imagine leaving national anthem, coat of arms or a simple maxim to the owners of these businesses. The international image of the country would be very, very avant-garde. Salvador Dali would die for the second time.

Superman drivers:

Oh those are special. Every driver will tell you that he was the most successful businessman somewhere in Russia’s deep ass before coming to Yerevan to drive taxi. Your question: “why do you drive taxi then?” will be answered by a thoughtful look and don Corleone voice saying: “recession, you know…”. To which you will nod and say: “Aaaaaaa…”., blaming financial crisis for fueling Yerevan with world’s most prominent business brains.

So imagine, Yerevan is the city where you may see Forbes magazine cover guy driving taxi. Where else will you see those? Maybe only in Hollywood movies…
