time for mammoths to go
I haven’t seen such snow in Yerevan for some 10 years. And I haven’t seen such irresponsible city management for some …. many years. I bet our mayor is very happy for the snow. Very happy. It’s time for him to enjoy this Christmas mood in the middle of February from his warm cabinet in municipality. And he thinks to himself, what a wonderful world….
Our mayor, Mr. Margaryan thinks that the warmth of his love towards the city will eventually melt all the snow around. He is sure the energy of his pure thoughts and the history of his brilliant city management will make the weather change and the Nature itself will feel shame for sending such snow to Yerevan.
Mr. mayor, maybe nobody told you, maybe you don’t know, maybe it was not written in the instruction to your new Vertu or your new Benz, this is why I am gonna tell you so you know.
If you clean the streets of Yerevan every morning, when it snows – you still need to clean the streets of Yerevan every morning. I don’t know about you, but the streets of Yerevan are my face. I am used to washing it everyday. Irrespective of snow.
I know we all are children of the sky, but this is not the case to expect Sun to melt the snow. I know the world should hold on, but you still need to perform your duties everyday. I know this is a men’s world, but to be a man you need to respect ladies that brake their beautiful legs because of ice on the streets. I know you feel good, but that’s not what you should.
Taron’s secret
The mayor of my city is not only the sexiest guy around. He’s also the smartest.
The citizens were protesting to dismantle ugly boutiques built on Abovyan street. Those boutiques made my beautiful city look like Pakistan. Ex-mayor, an extravagant gentleman from Russian company (works for Russian company now too), started this work and successfully left it on the shoulders of his followers. Starting something quick, ad hoc and without exit strategy was his …. strategy.
The current mayor, Mr. Margaryan finally managed to move those ugly boutiques from Abovyan street to ….the central avenue of my city!
I will try to make a comparison. Imagine you have a washing machine in your living room. It’s uncomfortable, ugly and wrong. Your kids ask you to move it. So you decide to move it to another place. And you move it to ….your kids’ bedroom! A proof of infinite wisdom!
My guess is forces beyond those boutiques are more powerful than the mayor. Another guess is, the mayor of my city is genius and we all just don’t understand him.
In any case the reality is too surreal to believe.
to close the closed market case
Yerevan’s closed market is an icon of soviet architecture and one of modern Yerevan’s oldest monuments. Acquired by Gagik Tsarukyan it was serving the needs of fruit and vegetable resellers who have been buying those from peasants and selling with extra price in the territory of closed market.
Recently Mr. Tsarukyan sold the market to another tycoon, Samvel Alexanyan. In his turn Mr. Alexanyan started a big renovation project, claiming that the market will remain the market and his main idea is to renovate and modernize it. I personally like that idea.
A number of NGOs pitched to stop the renovation project, stating that civil construction as well as state monuments’ protection rules have been violated. They claim that renovation was never reported to municipality and the Ministry of Culture. Which is indeed a violation. The letter with the demand was addressed to the Prime Minister and Mayor of Yerevan.
Finally, our civil society has learned how to address demands and how to fix the target. This comes after all recent cases of wrongly addressed demands and badly managed campaigns described here.
I don’t know if those NGOs are properly informed about the case, however the good sign is they request answers from local authorities and government, i.e. those who must report to society. They demand information from those who should provide answers, but not church or businessmen, or other irrelevant parties as it was the case before.
