Storytellers – Doggystyle thoughts
“They are the first generation of the newly independent Armenia. They were kids when the war started, and the stories were being told in whisper. They faced the drastic shortage of electricity, so that the stories were being told in the dark. Two boys, Garik and David, were born in different families in Yerevan. They grew up carrying their own stories inside and unlocking those to the horizon. They grew up becoming the Storytellers.
It was a noisy club, where Garik and David met first back in 2009. Ever since then they have realized they shared the same story, and there the Music came.
It has been more than two years they walk into the studio every day and leave late at night, when the city looks empty but it doesn’t sound so. At night Yerevan is being filled with the tender sounds of true joy and naked pain.
Storytellers is into life with its precious. The music comes from the soul, so if you turn it on you may touch the invisible.”
Listen carefully from 3:40…
unwanted becomes badly wanted
I can’t claim I’m a great fan of synth pop or electro, however I can’t stand indifferent towards this great piece of art created by my fellow Armenians. Watch the video, listen to music, love the style. It’s fantastic, bravo. What a taste!
The name of this piece of art is “unwanted”, but I would say it’s badly wanted.

Tamushka, Gay & Saq and others
The names of Yerevan’s taxi services best reflect the level of human development. Talking about monopolies here, it needs to be mentioned that taxi business in Armenia is not monopolized. And maybe this is one of the reasons it is such a mess.
Taxis are many, they are various, but there are few things in common in almost every car. Bad music, strange taxi name and Nobel prize winner driver.
Music:
You will listen the types of music you never heard of. To classify with well-known terminology it may be described as deep down-tempo Armenian. But it will make you forget where you were going. Looking at the driver that enjoys the music you may wonder if the CD comes along with a pot. Thankfully Yerevan is a relatively small city so you won’t be zombified by the music before you arrive.
Strange taxi names:
If I start recalling all those names, Tamushka, Gay & Saq, Ну Погоди, Ganybablo, Super Extreme, etc. you may think I’m still under the mentioned music. One may wonder if this is the result of not monopolized business. I would pay to witness the process of creating these names. It may be a subject of a separate, big research. You can imagine leaving national anthem, coat of arms or a simple maxim to the owners of these businesses. The international image of the country would be very, very avant-garde. Salvador Dali would die for the second time.
Superman drivers:
Oh those are special. Every driver will tell you that he was the most successful businessman somewhere in Russia’s deep ass before coming to Yerevan to drive taxi. Your question: “why do you drive taxi then?” will be answered by a thoughtful look and don Corleone voice saying: “recession, you know…”. To which you will nod and say: “Aaaaaaa…”., blaming financial crisis for fueling Yerevan with world’s most prominent business brains.
So imagine, Yerevan is the city where you may see Forbes magazine cover guy driving taxi. Where else will you see those? Maybe only in Hollywood movies…
